My skin breaking out more in places than I normally would - Is this called purging?Updated 17 hours ago

When transitioning to natural skincare, some people experience a temporary adjustment period often referred to as purging. This happens as your skin begins to detox and rebalance—especially if you're switching from products that contain synthetic ingredients like alcohols, detergents, or silicones.

During this time, you might notice increased breakouts, flaking, or changes in oil production as your skin sheds built-up impurities and dead skin cells more rapidly. While this can be normal, it’s not something everyone experiences.

To help ease the transition, we recommend:

  • Scaling back your routine to just cleansing and moisturizing

  • Gradually reintroducing additional products one at a time, waiting 5–7 days between each

  • Patch testing before full use to check for compatibility

  • Discontinuing use if irritation persists or worsens
